SLUG: rooted-alpha-update-0-0-2-320-female-characters
SUMMARY: Rooted’s Alpha 0.0.2.320 update introduces the first female characters, performance optimizations, and core system upgrades.
The post-apocalyptic survival game Rooted just dropped Alpha 0.0.2.320 on October 30, 2025. It’s mostly a back-end update, but there’s a big addition players have been asking for.
The headline feature is the arrival of the first female characters. The team calls it an important milestone, paving the way for deeper customization and immersion down the line.
Under the hood, the update focuses on performance and stability. CPU optimization delivers smoother framerates and faster world streaming. GPU optimization is still in progress for future updates. These aren’t flashy changes, but they’re the groundwork for everything else coming next.
Several core systems got upgrades. They integrated Mutable, a system for more dynamic and detailed character customization. They’re also moving code from Blueprint to C++, which should improve performance, reliability, and flexibility. Broader use of the GAS (Gameplay Ability System) is meant to enhance abilities, effects, and AI behavior. These changes should make future updates easier to build and open the door to richer gameplay.
If you want to join the Alpha, you pledge the game on the official website — the link is on the Steam page. The developers warn that any other site offering free access is a scam.
The team also thanked players who supported their side project, Backrooms: Extractions, saying it helped them grow the studio and bring Rooted back into full-time development with a stronger team.
