SLUG: solarpunk-singleplayer-playtest-alpha
SUMMARY: Solarpunk alpha playtest begins September 4, 2025 for Kickstarter backers with new features.
The Solarpunk singleplayer playtest (Alpha) is live as of September 4, 2025. It’s only for Kickstarter backers who selected Alpha Access during the campaign. Those backers got their Steam keys back in January for the earlier alpha demo.
If you’re one of those backers, updating your Steam playtest build and restarting Steam should get you into the latest version. If you haven’t redeemed your key yet, search your inbox — or spam folder — for the Backerkit email from January. There’s also a key recovery link at solarpunk.backerkit.com.
It’s an alpha, so expect bugs and incomplete features.
What’s New
The team’s been busy since the last update. Here’s what they’ve added:
- Character Editor (basic version) is now in the game
- Basic controller support with a virtual cursor
- Animal care improvements — new round feeding and water stations, and smarter AI so animals actually use them
- Fresh assets like updated tomatoes and peppers, new trophy models, and polished item icons
- New music tracks for a cozier atmosphere
- Backer designs and skins are now in the game
Plus a bunch of smaller tweaks and fixes.
What’s Next
The multiplayer playtest will happen in a few weeks, depending on feedback from this singleplayer run. The team isn’t committing to a release date yet — they want to use these playtests to make sure the game feels right before announcing one.
The developer is also floating the idea of giving away free alpha keys to non-backers.
