The June 4, 2026 developer diary for Space Engineers 2 covers new additions including the Event Controller, Light Panels, and improvements to NPC behavior.

Event Controller

The Event Controller block allows players to create scriptless automation for vehicles and structures. Logan “Jakaria” Tyran of the Game Team explained the design philosophy: “When deciding events to implement for SE2’s Event Controller, we looked back at SE1 to see what vehicles/automatons player’s built that typically required scripts or complex solutions to what could just be a simple event. This includes mechs, subgrid wheel controllers, cranes, turrets, etc.”

One example shows the Event Controller used for a robotic arm controlled by WASDQE and mouse input. Another use-case displays “Safe Speed Active” when under 20 m/s, or flashes red with “Safe Speed Off” above that speed. The block can also manage braking and parking lights.

Light Panels

The Art Team is finalizing designs for the Control Panel block, which can be placed anywhere. Andre Lopes of the Art Team noted: “When creating these light panels, I focused on making them look good in the back, in case the player wants to use them also as decoration. With that in mind, I tried to make sure they all look well stacked, and also have some continuity in the design between sizes.” Emissives are disabled when fractured for better destruction visuals.

NPC Improvements

Key upgrades to the NPC behavior tree include working voxel surface navigation, allowing NPCs to follow the contours of voxels and asteroids. The Patrol & Search Behavior lets NPCs patrol an area and investigate alerts from sound or partial sight, transitioning to attack upon direct visual contact. The Platform Team is also developing new internal tools, including an NPC debugdraw feature.

These updates continue to expand automation and world interaction in Space Engineers 2.
