Space Engineers 2 just dropped VS2.3, a major update they’re calling “Drive, Automate & Detonate.” It landed on July 6, 2026, and it’s a big one. You’re getting the final mechanical blocks — Wheels and Hinges — plus destructive Warheads and core automation tools. That’s the Timer, Sensor, and Event Controller blocks.

Wheels and Rovers

You can finally build rovers, mobile bases, trailers, and ground vehicles. Wheels come in multiple sizes with suspension, steering, braking, and propulsion support. The devs say rovers are especially useful in dangerous weather, rough terrain, and early survival situations where flying is risky or expensive. It’s a major step for planetary gameplay.

Automation Gets Serious

The Event Controller is the standout here. It tracks grid and block parameters, letting your creations react automatically. Hangar doors can trigger systems when they open or close. Warning lights can respond to power, fuel, or inventory levels. Vehicles can react to speed or terrain conditions. Weapons systems can trigger based on ammo or targets.

The Event Controller supports separate true and false actions, which makes chaining systems together much easier. It tracks a long list of parameters:

  • Atmosphere %, Linear Speed, Angular Speed, Mass
  • Gravity, Dampeners enabled
  • Block parameters like Integrity, Enabled, Supplied, Inventory Filled (%)
  • Opened (for doors), Stored Resource (%) for batteries/tanks
  • Occupied (character in cockpit), Rotor angle, Piston distance
  • Ready To Align, Ready To Connect, Connected (connectors)
  • Producing (for production blocks), Ores detected, Weapon Ammo
  • Weapon Shot, Weapon target acquired

Combat and Exploration

Warheads are now in the game, giving you proper destructive options. The update also expands exploration with new planetary stations and Endless Encounters. There are foundational reworks to Survival progression and Ore Distribution too.

The devs describe these blocks as core building blocks that upcoming updates will expand upon. Each system is designed to integrate into the larger vision, letting them iterate and layer more complex gameplay over time.
