DefenseCon 2956 just wrapped up, and it smashed records—new all-time in-game concurrency for Star Citizen, thanks to the community. But with the dust settling on the Bevic Convention Center, the devs are diving straight back into the fray with a major patch on the horizon.
DefenseCon Breaks Records, But Bugs Bite Back
The event was a massive success, drawing players in-game, at Bar Citizens, and on Twitch. However, Alpha 4.8 has been a mixed bag. CIG acknowledged ongoing issues, including docking failures at certain stations, ship claim and Starmap glitches, and missing pledge items. Since then, several hotfixes have deployed, but the work isn’t done. The team is actively testing additional fixes based on player reports from the Issue Council and Spectrum.
“Every report helps us track issues down and get fixes moving faster.”
That’s good news for anyone frustrated by the current state of the verse.
Alpha 4.8.1 Drops This Week—Over 30 Fixes Incoming
Look out for Alpha 4.8.1, set to deploy on Wednesday, June 3, following a Live Service maintenance window. This patch packs more than 30 fixes and additions, with more expected to follow. Before that, a RSI Platform and Star Citizen Live Service maintenance window hits Tuesday, June 2, starting at 08:15 UTC. Matchmaking will be disabled then, and downtime shouldn’t exceed four hours. Keep an eye on the RSI Status Page for updates.
What this means for you: expect smoother docking, less frustration with your ship claim, and a cleaner Starmap after Wednesday.
June Brings Alien Week and Bar Citizen Fun
Beyond the patchwork, June is kicking off with a splash of color—CIG is inviting players to show off their best screenshots for a chance to win loot. Alien Week is also approaching, promising new content and reveals. And don’t forget International Bar Citizen Weekend is right around the corner, with in-person events near each studio. The team already hit the Netherlands Bar Citizen alongside TwitchCon Rotterdam, calling it “a fantastic event.”
It’s a packed week of maintenance, fixes, and community vibes. With Alpha 4.8.1 on the way, the verse might finally feel a bit more stable—just in time for Alien Week’s inevitable chaos.
