The May 2026 Monthly Report for Star Citizen highlights work finalized for Alpha 4.8 and DefenseCon, with teams now shifting focus to content for Alpha 4.9 and beyond.

AI and Animation Progress

The AI Content team is closing out tasks for Alpha 4.9, which the team describes as “a very important one for the narrative design of the game, as the team is contributing to two very large elements that will lay important foundations for developing narrative in the ultimate 1.0 vision.”

On the animation side, work included:

  • Mass retargeting of male-to-female combat AI assets
  • Support for unconscious and bleeding-out behaviors
  • Prototypes for the valakkar, including burrowing animations and improved path patching
  • Refactored AI-triggered states and debug shortcuts

The Animation team also progressed with the apex valakkar, adding new attacks and animations, and captured enter and exit animations for upcoming ships.

Returning Character and Performance Capture

The Facial Animation team processed content from April’s performance-capture shoot, which will appear in Alpha 4.9. This includes the return of Recco Battaglia, marking “the first instance of an old character returning to the ’verse with new content and missions.” Two additional performance-capture shoots were held, covering content for Alpha 4.9 and 4.10.

Ships and DefenseCon

May’s DefenseCon saw several ships become flyable, including the Aegis Tiburon, Hammerhead ‘gold standard,’ Origin M80, MISC Starlite, and Drake Pitbull, Ironclad, Ironclad Assault, and Command Module.

For players, Alpha 4.9 is shaping up to be a narrative-focused patch that will lay groundwork for Star Citizen’s long-term story and character development.
