The July 1, 2026 Roadmap Roundup from Cloud Imperium Games outlines changes to Star Citizen’s development focus, including a refined bug prioritization process ahead of Alpha 4.9.0.
Bug Prioritization Overhaul
Following the release of Alpha 4.8.0, CIG has reassessed how it prioritizes bugs. Senior Leadership now joins Development, QA, Player Experience, and Community teams to ensure the most impactful issues are addressed. The goal is for players to “feel the difference: more issues fixed, and your gameplay sessions noticeably improving.”
Nearly 100 Core Issues Identified
Based on reports from the Issue Council, Spectrum, Reddit, and direct feedback, CIG has identified nearly 100 issues affecting core gameplay systems and quality of life, including:
- Instanced Hangars, ATC, and Ship Retrieval
- Freight Elevators
- Quantum Travel and Starmap Routing
- Inventory UI and Interaction
- Ships falsely marked as lost or destroyed
- Docking
- Ship and FPS AI
- Login Flow
- Exploits
New Player Experience Focus
CIG is also tracking quality-of-life issues frequently reported by new players, aiming to address problems that affect the first hour of gameplay. The approach mirrors past work on the Transit system, where developing new debugging tools for QA led to more robust fixes. Freight Elevators are cited as a current example: despite 70 to 80 fixes since last summer, the system remains unreliable, and CIG hopes the new process will yield better results.
For players, this means a more targeted effort to fix long-standing bugs and improve stability, particularly for newer users.
