This week’s Star Citizen update confirms that Alpha 4.9 has landed, introducing a new ship, improved material scanning, and the first phase of a revamped flyby audio system.

Alpha 4.9 Highlights

The patch brings a range of changes, including:

  • A new ship that “bashed its way into our hearts”
  • Easier material scanning across the universe
  • The first rollout of a revamped flyby audio system, with more ships set to receive updated audio in future patches
  • A wide range of fixes and quality-of-life improvements for missions, ships, and the UI, addressing docking, inventory, and mission blocker issues

The team is still working through player feedback, with more fixes already in development. A first look at what’s tentatively planned for Alpha 4.10 is available via last week’s Roadmap Update and Roundup.

Upcoming Events and Maintenance

  • Bar Citizen World Tour continues: the next stop is Denver, Colorado, on August 15.
  • Live server maintenance is scheduled for Tuesday, July 21, starting at 12:00 UTC, with a few hours of downtime expected. Players should log out before maintenance begins.
  • The RSI Newsletter goes out on Friday, July 24.

For players, Alpha 4.9 delivers immediate gameplay improvements and hints at more audio updates and fixes to come in future patches.
