Stars Reach is finally letting players take the wheel of their own stats, and the latest playtest update is all about giving you meaningful control over how your character feels in the world.

The team at Stars Reach has been hard at work on a major infrastructure redesign, and this week’s playtest—targeting May 15 at 11:30 AM PT—introduces a hefty batch of player-requested systems. While the devs warn that some features are still rough around the edges, they’re pushing them out early to gather feedback. That means you’ll get to test stuff that’s still in the oven, and your bug reports will directly shape the final product.

Character Stat Allocations: Build Your Own Path

The biggest change is the introduction of skill points for new characters. When you create a fresh hero, you’ll receive 9,000 points to distribute across nine stats, which are grouped into three core categories:

  • Health: Governs max HP, Constitution (regen rate), and Toughness (damage mitigation).
  • Stamina: Controls max Stamina, Fitness (regen rate), and Strength (cost per stamina action).
  • Focus: Manages max Focus, Serenity (regen rate), and Concentration (spending rate).

Existing characters won’t be affected, so you’ll need to roll a new toon to experiment. There are presets on the side of the screen to help you get started, but the real fun is in tweaking your own spread to match your playstyle.

Paper Doll Improvements & Equipment Slots

The paper doll interface has been overhauled to show dedicated equipment slots more clearly. You’ll now see tabs for:

  • Tools
  • Utility Gear
  • Mobility Gear
  • Clothing
  • Accessories

Plus, the doll now renders your character correctly, which sets the stage for even deeper customization down the road.

“We are asking for both your patience and understanding, but also your keen testing ability.”

This update signals that Stars Reach is serious about letting players define their own roles, even if the current build is a little raw. If you’ve been waiting for a reason to dive into the galaxy, now’s the time to create a new character and see what kind of specialist you can build. Public playtests like this are where the game’s foundation gets forged, and your feedback will matter more than ever.
