Subnautica 2’s second Early Access hotfix is here, and it’s a lean, mean patch that tackles some of the community’s most frustrating bugs while making the ocean a little less terrifying—at least for your Tadpole.

Hammerheads No Longer Stalk Your Base

The biggest quality-of-life change in Hotfix 2 addresses the overly aggressive Hammerhead creatures. Previously, these beasts were inexplicably drawn to Tadpole lights, leading them to follow players all the way back to their bases and hover menacingly outside. Now, their attraction has been dialed back, so you can park your Tadpole without worrying about a Hammerhead houseguest.

Bug Fixes and Performance Tuning

Beyond creature behavior, the patch squashes several critical issues:

  • Fixed a bug that teleported players back to their base while exploring in a Tadpole
  • Resolved an infinite oxygen exploit after dying of hunger or thirst while piloting
  • Fixed a crash on losing connection in multiplayer
  • Patched a random crash in the late-game region
  • Improved performance on Epic visual settings
  • Added more Silver and Troilite resource areas in early and late game regions

What This Means for Players

If you’ve been hesitant to dive back in due to base-stalking Hammerheads or sudden teleportation, this patch is your green light. The devs also note they’re actively working on creature balance and graphics performance based on community feedback, so expect more tweaks in the coming weeks.

“Additional changes are currently being worked on to address community feedback on creature balance and overall graphics performance.”

Also worth noting: the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy have been updated, and you’ll be prompted to re-accept them on next launch. Telemetry can now be turned off at any time from settings—a small but welcome transparency win.

This is a solid, focused update that shows Unknown Worlds is listening. If they keep this pace, Subnautica 2 could evolve into something truly special long before full release.
