subnautica-2

The first proper update for Subnautica 2 drops tomorrow, July 8, 2026. It’s not just another hotfix — this one brings a small batch of the improvements the devs promised earlier, aimed at making the alien fish a bit less frustrating to deal with.

What’s changing

The update focuses on creature behavior changes, which is good news if you’ve been getting wrecked by the local wildlife. You still can’t kill any of those alien fish — that’s not changing here — but the way they act should feel different.

“a small bounty of those previously promised improvements that’ll hopefully make you a bit less mad about the fact you can’t kill any of those alien fishies”

That’s the gist from the announcement. No word on exactly which creatures got tweaked or how, but the devs are clearly targeting the pain points players have been feeling since early access launched.

What this isn’t

This isn’t a content drop with new biomes or vehicles. It’s a behavior and quality-of-life pass. The phrasing suggests the team is listening to feedback about creature aggression, pathfinding, or maybe how often certain things attack you. We’ll know the full changelist when it goes live tomorrow.

For now, mark your calendar. July 8 is when Subnautica 2 gets its first real shake-up since launch.
