The team behind Windrose published a devblog on July 1, 2026 outlining early plans for the game’s first major content update, currently called Ashlands. They’re upfront that everything’s still in the prototype stage and could change.
“If something isn’t great, we tend to pivot it into something a lot better.”
The update focuses on a complete fourth biome — Ashlands, a region scarred by ancient volcanic eruptions. You’ll continue hunting for Obols, with the next fragment hidden in a long-forgotten Spanish colony. The story and side quests are getting a significant scope increase, with new factions entering the picture.
What’s Coming
The devblog shared a few concrete things in progress:
- Buccaneer faction — updated costume concepts are being worked on
- New armor sets — concept art is in progress for possible character armor
- Story continuation — you’ll keep all your progress from Early Access
The team also explained why long-term plans aren’t locked in yet. They said delivering Early Access and patching took a real toll on them, so future planning got pushed aside. Now that the game’s live and feedback has poured in, they feel better equipped to figure out what Windrose could become.
Their approach is straightforward: deliver Ashlands at the quality they expect, learn from player impressions, then build from there. The exact scope of the update may still shift as development moves forward.
